BEATING THE VIRUS (My Corona story)

He caught me unaware . A bugler in the night  who followed me home one day. I had  heard of his raids and the blood trails that dripped along his paths but i never imagined i would ever be his victim . Fourteen days and night alone in my home he terrorized me .I was drained of my energy but i had to fight because that was all i have been taught to do. I thought i would have a better advantage because of my youth but he didn't leave without a struggle, reminding me of other reasons why i was very vulnerable.

In the midst of the uncertainty, the sweaty nights, the chesty coughs, the heavy breaths, i finally beat him and I'm glad to say that i beat COVID-19 and I'm never opening the door again for that stranger to walk into my home.  This is my Corona story.

The unpleasant experience, the near death one. One of those personal  encounters where the words " will I make it?" would gush out of my pharynx in surrender to an unknown answer.

That was the question I asked months ago when I was officially tested positive for Covid-19. Yes ! Catherine the self acclaimed " expert in virology", the professor of COVID-19, who slides into your DM to correct a post on a  myth you posted on COVID-19 got the virus and it was not a funny experience.

Luckily I had self isolated myself the very moment I discovered I had lost my sense of smell and had a serious fever partnered which sessions of sneezing.

My family initially doubted  my claims, they thought i had read about it too much.

How could i have gotten infected i was  mostly home because I worked from home.

Have you ever heard the myth that  Covid 19 is not real? That It's only a made-up scheme by the government to make money. What about thinking that  it can never  happen to you.  More like you wear the bullet proof against viral infections. Well i must admit ,that thought also crossed my mind,it actually cat walked passed my thoughts a few times. Even when i experienced the symptoms but I Shrugged it off .The only Bullet proof is handwashing ,Nose mask and social distancing as much as you can. I know the challenge, even when you draw a line people refuse to observe social distance .The queues to reduce population in banks and stores are literally a "Body glue line".   I was sorry i hadn't protected myself successfully enough but i had to quit crying over spilled milk and protect my loved ones after all its my responsibility.

I immediately Instructed my family to stay away from me and I drove to the nearest testing Centre where i had  the test and waited for my results self isolating in my own home .

Four  days later I got the call from NCDC. My result was positive. Well they didn't need to tell me ,i was a mess at home. I was allowed to self isolate alone at home  and my drugs were brought to me. Those 14 days delivered 14 days of emotional torture. My physical symptoms   where not entirely mild but moderate. It felt like a different kind of  flu, i took to rest, drank plenty water, took my supplements and ate a lot of fruits with lots of chloroquine and zinc.

What I missed the most was the smell of my candles  and the taste of even the most bitter food. The only perk i got was when PHCN refused to disconnect my electricity from a misconfigured connection in my home. The bark of my dog was no deterrent, but when i told them "Stop! Don't come any closer. I have COVID. They sped off  in fear and left a shoe.

Oh well! I am so elated that I have not risked infecting anyone, I was quarantined carrying the burden of fear for my own safety and mine alone.  My family tested immediately my result was out and and they were negative . I have been confirmed negative now twice. The virus has completed its life cycle and the host is still alive. Yuppie!!

I am happy that I stood my ground hurting my sweet mum's feeling by insisting she stayed away from me.

I am glad I went for a test, it was very easy to dismiss as a bad malaria or cold.

And I am grateful for the second chance i have at life again. This my life has had its own shares of testimony. My village people enjoy being defeated over again.

I can assume some people may still think i was

paid 50000N to come up with a story, well i used it to buy fruits when i had COVID. Some may even think it never leaves the body and im still positive(please maintain double social distance from me then).

Do know that covid-19 is real, it can happen to anyone and it is not a death sentence especially if detected early.

Take responsibility, protect yourself and the ones around you and remain safe.
